Research shows that the food-processor, coffee grinder and hand-blender are the most used gadgets in a kitchen. I doubt it. How about my favourite cattle, microwave or fridge ? But let`s say we trust the researchers and in a same time as we are getting ready for the traditional orgy of consumption that is the Christmas season, we decide to surprise our “darlings” with something insanely cool. Here is a tip. A Beautiful Foot-Cranked Kitchen machine called R2B2. I like it because of it`s man powered nature. It`s like converting part of your energy into a food you are preparing. Isn`t it awesome ?
Electricity is not necessary anymore.
It comes from Berlin-based designer Christoph Therard and It works like this. You hit pump the pedal and a big, heavy flywheel starts to spin up to 400rpm. Once moving, it can provide 350-watts of power for the duration of about one minute. Gearing, switched with a big knob on the front, spins one of two shafts on the surface, one fast and one slow. The processor and grinder dock with the shafts, while the hand-blender gets its power from a flexible, twisting cable. A transmission lets it spin at up to 10.000 rpm. When not in use, everything can be stowed inside the main body.
